Post-push Stats

-- Styles: 47 styles submitted and 27 live. Yay one new style! (And I have another one from TAMM patched and almost ready for review. Progress!)

-- Themes: 608 submitted* and 486 live. OMG. That's 74 new themes in less than a month! What have you guys eaten?!

-- Styles with fewer themes than others are: Boxes and Borders, Modish, Skittlish Dreams, Stepping Stones, Sunday Morning, and Tabula Rasa. The new style also needs lots of themes so I hope it'll inspire you. :)

As usual, people who'd like to learn how to patch themes can raise their hands in a comment because we have new submissions already. Can we aim for well over 500 total live themes for next month? I think we can at this rate...

* not counting the new submissions.

Let's see. I have eaten sugar, sugar. More sugar, lots of sugar, have I mentioned sugar? Oh, and caffeine, and some balsamic vinegar I swear is made with crack for how good I feel when anything made with it is part of the meal.

If you're aiming for over 500 total live themes, then I can justify another two or three of those days where I do over 20 themes in two days. This makes me absolutely, superbly happy ...

Now why couldn't I have managed to do two of the 20 themes a day days while the seed account sale was going on ... Oh well. Better this way anyway.

^This.

Well, I know part of why. I was, um, kind of insanely, incredibly busy with life. Plus, you know, not having a seed account means that I have continuing and forever incentive to contribute to Dreamwidth, whereas I could see eventually falling off with a seed account. So like I said, better this way.

Coffee.

And I can certainly help contribute with the 500 live themes. I'm planning on posting some more themes this weekend.

How much tech know-how does patching involve? I use the Quick and Dirty guide for the colour themes because I'm kind of technologically backward :3

I suspect I'd be capable of patching themes (and want to finish mine and submit it anyway).

So, um, yeah, *raises hand*

I know that I am Wired On Summer, as far as finally learning how to do basic color themes! :)

Getting paid in DW points was kicky-fun enough that I think I'll get my rear in gear and finish the other ones I've been working on. :)

Plus, the entire themes/styles community has been fabulously helpful and fun, so that's a big perk to doing more themes! :D

[personal profile] ex_rising236 2011-06-17 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
That is seriously one of the best parts about it. Besides getting the awesome satisfaction of seeing my contributions live on the site and even occasionally stumbling across my themes on other people's journals, being paid in DW points has allowed me a chance that I never have otherwise, which is that I get to spend those points on other people and be anonymously gifty, because it seems that when frequently submitting you earn a lot more than you can use on yourself. And it's great, because my financial situation just doesn't let me do those sort of nice things otherwise, in or in other areas of my life, and I get the biggest amount of joy from being able to give gifts funded by the theme work I do.

^This. *nods nods*

Word to this. I am in tight financial straits and couldn't afford an account for myself, much less for others, but the ability to earn points and gift them around is a source of a quiet delight. Warm coffee on the deck with the sunrise, purring cat at my feet, paid time donating. All excellent. :)

I'd like to try theme patching. I usually use a mac with OS 10.4.11.

Hi! I just got my Dreamhack account, managed to ssh in, change and create (system) passwords, and start apache. What do I do next?

I've been reading the getting started notes and jumping around to read various links from there but I need focus or I forget what I've read. :)

Thanks again!

I think the next step for you is the Newbie Guide for People Patching Styles! I've put that link in the sidebar links on the community here, so it'll be easy for people to find.

Sorry, I keep getting distracted!

At this point I guess I just need to get started. How exactly does that work? I see there are many unclaimed color themes. What is the process, should I just choose one and file it at Bugzilla?

Would it be possible (or advisable, I don't know) to put a link on the front page to the newbie guide on patching? Perhaps [personal profile] foxfirefey can weigh in on this?

Perhaps a Newbie's directory would be more appropriate? With all the tutorials a newbie can shake a keyboard at.

I do get comments! I'll add the newbie guide to patching, and we can figure out a directory later on.

I have updated my style browser with all the new themes, woo!

I have found a couple niggles, I don't know if you'd want to fix them yourself but they are also things we can assist others for patching practice with:

* Modular -- heart of darkness -- some colors not in color format, have 4 letters instead of 3
* Brittle -- Pressed Flowers -- needs # for some colors
* Five AM -- custom reading colors not working -- my guess is the CSS selector is just much more specific than the custom reading color CSS selector and so it overrides it

The CSS is definitely present! Maybe you tweaked the userpic selector later on. In any case, they are all very easy fixes!

I should, it's nice! A couple more days for it to settle in and tweak and I will.

I do find myself craving one thing with this style--I'd like the "current" menu item to get highlighted in some way! Opinions?

Hrm, one thing about Early Edition: there's no way to customize the colors in the nav strip. I mean, besides Custom CSS.
