Posting this at
afuna's request :)
Theme name/layout: Snakes & Boxes / Tabula Rasa
Author:
aqrima
Image Info: None
Layout info:
color scheme 1: pinked out
color scheme 2: newspaper
color scheme 3: glitter grass
color scheme 4: bluesy
color scheme 5: midnight
color scheme 6: wild thing
NOTES:
1. At
afuna's request, I converted this layout to relative width measurements. I will have more color schemes up and ready soon!
2. I have tested the layout quite a bit in Firefox (my default browser) and Safari -- let me know if it doesn't work in your particular browser of choice. Little things matter, too! [Sorry, I'm a bit of a perfectionist..]

So the 8pt text makes it hard to read. Can you change the font-sizes to something that might scale better?
I know there's a PXtoEM site, but I also found a downloadable EMChart.
I look forward to the other iterations of your layout. Will you make more Tabula Rasa layouts?? (Nudge nudge) :D

the problem is when i changed it to ems, as in, 8pt > 1em, it's just really big in comparison. also i'm not sure what EMs really mean, or how it makes a difference, or how scaling works, though i tried to make sense of it.. i'm sorry.. i'm rather new to this. i'll try to figure it out, though. thanks for the resources :)
my mother's computer has a much higher resolution than mine, and the layout doesn't look so bad as to be unreadable, though the text is pretty small. it sucks that your monitor won't let you change the size, though :( i'm sorry.
i'm going to work on trying to figure out this business of EM sizes, and what scaling means, and get back to you ~ thanks for telling me about it.

i hope it's helped, but please tell me if it hasn't :)
i'm also working on the other color schemes, i really ought to hurry up with them, honestly. i'm just a bit too finicky and too many other things have been going on lately. will update soon, though :)
thanks again.

oh wow, i'd never heard of flock before! hah. i'm downloading it; i think i want to try it out. might be useful for customizing layouts in any case.
btw, i added one more color scheme :)

I'm thinking we could give #canvas/entries a fluid width, set in percentages, so that they can shrink and grow, to a certain extent. The entry content could be shifted away from the userpics with a margin-right -- what do you think, does that sound doable?
no subject
I also think relative measurements would be better; I recently made a layout on lj in ems, no pixels. I hadn't thought of that earlier (i.e. when I made this layout) though. But I could convert it entirely to ems (and/or percentages) and edit this post with the new version -- it might take me a day or two, though, is that okay?

"Ems are good for sizes and margins in relation to text, for example if you want to raise the userpic up one line, giving it a top margin of -1.5em is good. They're also good for widths of small text boxes, like the sidebar, which should accommodate about the same number of lines for larger and smaller fonts. Percentages are good for page margins and large blocks, for example if you want to make the content 80% of the page width or if you want to give the inner header a margin of 10% within the outer header box."

i didn't end up using percentages here after all -- i tried to but messed up, so i decided to just use ems, and it seems to be alright for now -- but i will keep experimenting with using both percentages and ems, and customizing things so they appear well in all browsers (i hate that part the most..).. hm.
anyhow, i've updated this entry with the (almost complete?) relative-widths version of the layout. i'll add the other color schemes once i'm more satisfied with the general css. i'm having some issues with the comments presently..
(i hope it's alright, though, in general.. i changed a few things with the comment userpics and such).

i've fixed the problem with the comments i was having, and i will add the other color schemes soon (and some more new ones, probably). i was wondering, though, if you could remove the :fixed width tag from this entry, since the layout is no longer in fixed widths?
thanks!

ETA
Last of the comment spam, hehe
And you can't see this because of the being locked thing, but here is how the status of a private, NSFw entry shows when I switch the icons to text:
http://www.afunamatata.com/screenshots/snakesandboxes-securityprivacy.png
I did both of these by adding this code to my theme layer:
set entry_management_links = "text";
set comment_management_links = "text";
function Entry::print_metatypes() {
$this->print_metatypes(false, true);
}

Anyway here is one screenshot with no comments:

could you also do the same for the comment interaction/management link images, if you don't mind?
[I realize I'm a bit anal about tiny icons, or not having them, lol..]
thank you :)

and no, it's fine, I don't need a screenshot :)

I'm sorry to bother you with a silly question like this, but I was wondering if there's any sort of tentative schedule for when my layout might be ready to go up? Oh dear, I really don't mean to sound impatient, it's just that I'm a little confused about how it all works. I really am very grateful, honestly, that you & the other amazing coders here even like my layout enough to want it as an official style.
I also noticed that the other layout-makers here seem to be publishing their new color schemes in separate posts, whereas I just kept adding on to this one. Perhaps that made it look like I disappeared..? Hmm..

I'm sorry for disappearing on you :)
Giving this theme another go!
I have discovered that Active Entries, a Paid User feature, does not have the same background color as the rest of the modules. I know why this is; just adding it here for reference.
The part that I added was .module-active to the list of modules on line 696 (in Smultron, anyway).
Re: Giving this theme another go!
Re: Giving this theme another go!
Re: Giving this theme another go!
It's caused by this line of css:
So anytime someone includes a user name within the body of the entry, this will occur.
Re: Giving this theme another go!
You know what? I think this is entirely an isolated thing. I tried to duplicate it, and couldn't. I think the OP may have done that.

I've been working on converting your style in the last few months and while I still have a few things to fix it's pretty much done. I sincerely apologize for the very long time it took to do this BTW. That being said I have two questions for you:
1) Do you still want credit to go to aqrima seeing as the journal no longer exists? Or do you prefer ajnabi? Or something else?
2) Would you mind looking at http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/preview_redirect?themeid=501185 and telling me what you think. I've had to change some things so it looks a bit different but are there things which seem completely wrong to you?
