1 Transmogrified Style, 2 Color Schemes

I was encouraged to post here and what good news it was to find out that I don't really have to know how to code the S2 background stuff, I can just submit the CSS files. The Dreamwidth community is awesome.

1 style, 2 color schemes.
Seeking someone to convert them.

Hi ravenclawbest,

Have you sent a CLA to Denise? I'm asking to see if these can be patched or not.

I have just got my Dreamhack set up, thanks to [personal profile] foxfirefey and [personal profile] ninetydegrees' amazing documentation. My plan is to practise making patches by working on some S2 themes, and these look like a good place to start. They're both simple enough to be manageable, and really really pretty.

Oh yay!
I don't know what the procedure for claiming is, but I'm glad these interested you =D

I've done about 90% of the conversion; you can see it here:
http://liv.dreamwidth.org/36336.html?s2id=143661

Thanks for writing such clear, logically organized CSS; you really made things easy for a newbie! I have a couple of problems, though, and I don't know if you could help me with them. One is that layouts these days have the option to put the side-bar on the right or left, and you have a right sidebar hardcoded. Is it at all possible to mirror-image the layout, and if so, can you tell me what positioning CSS you'd use if you wanted a sidebar on the left?

Second, and it's probably just me, but I can't get the entry date to show up the same size as the time. It's odd, because they should both have the same .datetime class, but I'm really struggling with it. Any ideas for making that bit not tiny?

The other thing is that I have changed the base font to 1em, in order to comply with Dreamwidth's accessibility rules. All the other font sizes are now relative. I know that makes the text look huge by default, but it's better for people with visual impairments and non-standard browsers if we start with everything at 1em and let each viewer scale using their own browser settings.

Hey, sorry for how long it's taken me to reply. I fail at replying to comments, truly. I totally understand about the accessibility rules, and I'm actually quite happy with DW making that a rule.

As for the sidebar issue, I think that the css options for that are:

.one-column #content, .two-columns-left #content, .three-columns-sides #content, .two-columns-right #content, .three-columns-sides #content, .three-columns-left #content, .three-columns-right #content

I believe that these create the options I know of for moving the sidebar around. Let me know if I answered the question.

As for the datetime thing, I've only just began with DW code so I'm not sure how that separated out.

Have I mentioned how excited I am that you're patching this?

Hi timeasmymeasure!

During the patching process, it's been noted that this could probably be converted to a Tabula Rasa style. I agreed and tried to see if this was do-able as I thought it wasn't fair to ask Liv to recode everything when she'd already worked so hard on this. This is the draft I came up with:

Layout source: http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/advanced/layersource?id=134826

Dreamer source: http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/advanced/layersource?id=138486

It's missing some code (control strip and hover pop-ups mostly) and the rest may not always be correct but most of it is there I think.

Figured I should let you know in case you had remarks to make or if you wanted to help out with the conversion. :)

I'll look it over during the weekend.
Am I allowed to edit the layer source at this point?
It's fine if I'm not; I wouldn't want to complicate/increase workload :)

Alright, so I modified bits and pieces of the theme layer, not too much though.
Here's the layer source: http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/advanced/layersource?id=139601&fmt=html

I'll work on some more color themes to submit.

Meanwhile, here the modified color themes (Dreamer and Philosopher).
Dreamer: http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/advanced/layersource?id=139929&fmt=html
Philosopher: http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/advanced/layersource?id=139927&fmt=html

I should probably add an ETA with the layer sources to this entry just in case.

Thanks a lot for the edits. Is this your final version? Or do you still want to have the control strip and the hover pop-ups styled?

Hey!
So I was looking over the layer source for this and I found an error in the tag (metadata) links. It matched the module_title instead of the entry_title which would make more sense and avoid issues when the module is styled. Sorry for the lateness of this catch.

[personal profile] ninetydegrees mentioned the work you'd done here in the Bugzilla ticket for this layout, and I just wanted to pop in and say thank you! And thank you for all the rest of your themes, too. Your color sense is just so pretty, all calm and tranquil. I love 'em.

Especially with all the handholding [personal profile] ninetydegrees has been patiently doing throughout the process. Not to mention how easy to be involved with DW you guys continue to make it.

Thank you!

Hi Robyn

I'm working on this right now and I was wondering if:
a) you wanted to check things
b) you could tell me what colors you want on hover in entries because I had to add entry link colors in the themes to make sure the nav strip links were visible and I think it changed things a bit. So title, entry links, management links, etc. If you could tell me if it's ok or not that'd be great.

The preview for Dreamer is: http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/preview_redirect?themeid=203707

And for Philosopher: http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/preview_redirect?themeid=203708

Yay, I'm glad it's finally getting some patching :)

Answers:
a) I'll help if I can with whatever, so if there's something wrong feel free to point it out
b) Whatever you have right now on both is all good.

BTW, I had other dusty foot color themes submitted. Feel free to do the same kind of linking with the colors you did with dreamer and philosopher.

Thanks for this!

a) I think I only changed two things: I made the userpic in the navigation strip visible again and switched a color on contextual pop-ups to make sure the background and foreground colors were a pair.

b) Good!

I've patched them already. Here there are:

http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/preview_redirect?themeid=204428
http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/preview_redirect?themeid=204539
http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/preview_redirect?themeid=204540
http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/preview_redirect?themeid=204541

Again, same question about links because some of these are a little different since you've explicitly set the colors for the interaction and management links.

These look really good, thanks again!

Good to know, thanks.

One more question and sorry if you mentioned this already: which theme do you want to be the default one?

And another one: would it be ok to add a title to the navigation module when it's in a sidebar? Since the modules aren't visually separated, it can be hard to spot the links imo. And maybe same question with the horizontal calendar.

And one more: you have the footer background color set to match the header background color in your layer but the themes have different footer colors. What is the correct setting?

Also, this is live on my Dreamhack if you wanna test it.

Noted, noted and edited.

By font settings, do you mean the journal title font size or something else?

Edit: also, any idea for the icons page (this is what I have so far: http://system.ninetydegrees.hack.dreamwidth.net/icons)?
